BNT COMPANY DANCER
Kara Joann Weigel, originally from Yukon, Oklahoma, received her training from the Academy of Ballet and Theatre Arts under the instruction of Lisa Webb. She attended three years at Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain where she studied ballet and modern dance. She also attended a summer intensive at Kirov Ballet in Washington D.C.
In May of 2020, Mrs. Weigel received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Oklahoma under the Dean of Fine Arts, Mary Margaret Holt, and the Director of OU Dance, Michael Bearden. She has had the opportunity to perform in George Balanchine’s Concerto Barocco, Merce Cunningham’s How To: Pass, Kick, Fall, Run, as well as variations from Swan Lake.
Kara joined Ballet North Texas in their 2020/21 Season. With BNT Kara has danced leading roles of Marzipan and Spanish in The Nutcracker, Winter Fairy in Cinderella, and Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream. She has also worked with Artistic Director Nicolina Lawson, Resident Choreographers Carrie Ruth Trumbo, Mackenzie Jones, Natalie Anton, and Hannah Knorr in developing roles she then performed in their respective world premieres. She is thrilled to be returning for the 2024/2025 season!
